Introduction
Knowing how much energy is left in a battery is only part of delivering a reliable product. To truly optimize battery‑powered devices, it’s just as important to understand how the battery changes over time. Nordic’s fuel gauge & battery health solutions work together to provide accurate, real‑time insight into both remaining state of charge and long‑term battery state of health.
Nordic’s algorithm-based fuel gauging and battery health inputs real-time voltage, current, and temperature data from the PMIC into a mathematical battery model in the SoC software. The SoC uses this to accurately estimate the battery’s state of charge and state of health. The fuel gauge algorithm and battery model require only minimal flash memory and work just as well on 3rd part MCUs. There is no dedicated chip or licensing fees involved - just minimal flash memory usage and existing hardware costs.

Platform support
The fuel gauge algorithm runs on any Arm Cortex M4 or M33, like those found in the nRF52, nRF53, nRF54, nRF91 and nRF93 Series. If you require support for any other device architecture, please contact the Nordic sales team for more information.
