노르딕 Thingy:91은 LTE-M, NB-IoT 및 GPS를 이용하는 셀룰러 IoT를 위한 프로토타이핑 플랫폼으로, 사용이 편리하고, 배터리로 구동된다. 이는 셀룰러 IoT 개발 단계에서 개념증명(PoC: Proof-of-Concept), 데모 및 초기 프로토타입을 구현하는데 매우 적합하다.

Thingy:91은 nRF9160 SiP를 기반으로 구현되었으며, 광범위한 글로벌 LTE 대역에 대한 인증을 획득했기 때문에 전세계 어디에서나 사용할 수 있다. 셀룰러 통신은 GPS 포지셔닝 수집과 원활하게 동작이 가능하기 때문에 정교한 자산추적 제품을 구현하는데 이상적이다. 이 키트에는 자산추적 애플리케이션이 사전 로드되어 있다. 

이 키트는 모션, 충격, 공기질 등 다수의 센서를 포함하고 있다. nRF Connect SDKThingy:91을 지원하며, 모든 센서 및 연결 기능에 대한 예제를 갖추고 있다. 

Thingy:91은 nRF52840 멀티 프로토콜 SoC가 내장되어 있으며, 이를 통해 프로젝트 아이디어에 블루투스 LE(Bluetooth Low Energy) 연결을 추가할 수 있다. 

노르딕 Thingy:91은 전세계적으로 사용할 수 있는 아이베이시스(iBasis)의 SIM 카드와 함께 제공된다. 이 카드는 10MB의 데이터 요금제를 무료로 제공하기 때문에 즉시 셀룰러 망과 연동할 수 있다. Thingy:91 및 SIM 카드는 노르딕 세미컨덕터의 클라우드 데모, 평가 및 테스트 플랫폼인 클라우드용 nRF Connect(nRF Connect for Cloud)를 사용하여 클라우드에 등록 및 모니터링이 가능하다.
